Alternative Party Bag Ideas That Don’t Include Plastic
With kids parties well and truly back on the table, you may be considering alternative party bag ideas that don’t include plastic or single-use items. We’ve rounded up our top ideas for more eco-friendly options that will hopefully help all those prospective party planners, and appeal to the masses too…
Don’t use a Party Bag!
Instead of party bags, pop some goodies in something practical that can be used again! Some of our favourite ideas are;
A drinks bottle (easy to fill with sweets)
A Tote Bag (one Mumbler suggested a colour in design)
Seasonal/ themed containers – you can even tie it in with your birthday party theme/season i.e. skull heads for October, Santa or reindeer for December, bunnies or egg-shaped for Easter.
Edible options for party bags
Sweet cones, cups or bags are a great option! You can fill your chosen vessel with sweets of your (or your child’s) choosing.
Personalised cupcake or cookie make a great choice for a takeaway. You can add names or style with your chosen theme.
Cake or cookie in a jar are another great alternative; giving the children something to make when they get home! Just be sure to include ingredients in case of allergies and some instructions on how to make. You can always add a themed cookie cutter too!
Decorate your own gingerbread man; simply give everyone a large gingerbread man along with an icing tube and something for the buttons to decorate and eat at home.
Natural options for party bags
Flower seeds are a lovely idea. Children will enjoy planting them and watching their seedlings grow into fully fledged plants.
Mini plants are another great option for those of you that would prefer to give a potted plant – you can even write names on the pots for each individual for more personalisation.
Painted pebbles can either be painted in advance or given to the children to paint on the day and take home as a lovely keepsake.
A Bird feeder is a simple, cheap and effective idea that will get the kids really excited! Discover how to use pine cones, seeds and suet to create simple hanging bird feeders with Gardener’s World.
Duck food is a great choice for those wanting their giveaways to give back!
Crafty options for party bags
Mugs which can be decorated on the day with sharpies (and baked to seal them) before giving back to recipients to take home. Add some sweets inside and you have a keepsake and a sweets container too!
Fabric and fabric pens which, again, can be decorated on the day and filled with sweets/cake to take home. You can choose tops, bags, socks etc.
Photo frames which you can paint and decorate on the day – you can always take a photo and pass it onto kiddies to remember the day too!
Soaps and bath bombs can be made on the day and taken home to enjoy later.
Craft corner; simply have an area at the party where you children can create things to take home with them as keepsakes – it’s the perfect win win!
Paper options for party bags
Books; this is a top choice and is not as expensive as you may think! Many places offer bundles of books for a discounted price, or you could even look at getting second hand books from charity shops to pay it forward! And with books, there are always lots of options to choose from.
Kids magazines; there are lots of options tailored to specific interests, or general puzzles etc. And sometimes they even include a free gift too! Something for the children to read and enjoy at a later date.
Colouring books and pencils are easy, and cost-effective. You can simply tie a few crayons together with a themed colouring book and voila! Everyone loves to colour!
Keepsake options for party bags
Sponsor or adopt an animal; these usually come with a certificate and a photo and sometimes a cuddly toy!
Reusable bottles are a popular choice that are guaranteed to be used again and again. You can even fill them with sweets too!
Wish bracelets have become increasingly more popular. And you can always add a note to say once its starts to fray, the wish is on its way.
Cuddly toy with a ribbon and tag saying ‘thank you’ for coming to the party makes for a great keepsake.
Classic options for party bags
Party theme accessories round up the party nicely! Our favourite one was a superhero themed party where all the children got a silk cape to take home!
Bubbles are always a winner! A simple bubble wand can make anyone’s day!
Balloons are always present at birthday parties so why not incorporate them into your giveaways. Children love them and would be thrilled to take one home. And there are so many options too! You can even tie to a character or birthday theme!
Stationary is always a popular option, with pens, pencils, and erasers, you name it!
Cake; a slice of birthday cake will always go down a storm!
Sweets might not be the popular choice for the grown-ups but it’s definitely a popular choice with the kiddies. Even one tube of smarties is enough!
Pick your own options
Create a Lucky dip filled with any of the above for children to choose one to take home
Or even create a Tombola with a raffle ticket stuck to each item and have children choose a ticket out of bag before they leave.
Whatever you decide, remember you don’t need to spend the earth for children to be happy. Enjoy planning your parties people!
