Motherhood is crazy. It’s crazy, and wild, and amazing and beautiful.
Growing a human is so special but also hard work! As you start your motherhood journey, know there is nothing more important than looking after yourself, so that you can look after others.
You cannot pour from an empty cup and lets be honest, pregnancy and motherhood are tiring! And as someone who has practised yoga for many years, I can tell you it is one of the best things you can do for your mind and your body.
Yoga is very beneficial in pregnancy. I’ve done it throughout my pregnancies and it’s helped in many ways, and it can help you too.
Don’t worry if you’ve never done any yoga before, there aren’t any entry requirements, only that you have got beyond your first trimester. And you can start at any point in your pregnancy and see benefits.
There are lots of reasons to start pregnancy yoga, at any point in your pregnancy.
Pregnancy yoga can make space in your body, as your baby grows you can start to feel very uncomfortable.
It can help your breathing improve and increase your lung capacity, helping the breathlessness you may feel. And as you get bigger, the breathlessness gets real!
Yoga will help you to sleep better, and get some well needed rest before the baby is born.
Practicing yoga in pregnancy will release tension in achy muscles, especially in the lower back, shoulders and neck. It will also gently stretch your body and increase stamina in preparation for birth. They don’t call it labour for nothing!
Pregnancy Yoga also:
Yoga is also hugely beneficial in gently rehabilitating and restoring your body postnatally!
You can feel confident and comfortable that an experienced yogi and fully qualified pre and post natal yoga teacher is leading your class with Operation:Mama Yoga. It’s really important you go to a class lead by someone who has been prenatally trained, rather than just adjusts a few postures, for your own safety. I teach in Morley, Leeds and also offer private/small group pregnancy and postnatal yoga classes.
