There are so many great weekly classes and activities for babies, toddlers and pre-schools around South Leeds. Here’s a run-down of some popular classes for 0-5s that come recommended by mini-Mumblers…
Swimming has numerous benefits for babies, not to mention the lovely bonding time spent in skin-to-skin contact with you. It develops baby’s confidence in the water, helps with coordination and understanding their body and is a relaxing sensory experience. As well as teaching vital life skills.
Water Babies is a popular and professional brand, which provides exciting, enriching baby swimming classes that incorporate lots of bonding, fun and socialising. Classes run at Temple Moor High School (LS15 0PT) on Wednesday afternoons and Leeds City Hilton (LS1 4BX) on Monday mornings.
Puddle Ducks baby and toddler swimming classes utilise progressive lesson plans. The expert teachers identify children’s ability levels and tailor activities to nurture confidence and encourage natural ability while having fun. Classes run on various days at The Village Hotel South Leeds (LS27 0TS) and DW Fitness Leeds in Birstall (WF17 9TD) as well as other venues in Wakefield.
Toddler and children’s dance classes are a fantastic way for little ones to gain an understanding of rhythm and movement while burning off some energy and having lots of fun.
Funky Jives are are fun movement to music and dance sessions using a variety of dance props (pom poms, scarves, ribbons, maracas, handbells and hoops), ending with parachute and bubble fun. Classes for 1-7-year olds run on various days in Garforth and Colton.
Moo Music Leeds launches in Morley this week, having run successfully in North Leeds for over two years. This sensory based music class for 0-5 year olds involves singing, dancing, props and lots of “moo-sical” fun, with a different theme each week.
Singing, music and phonics introduced at an early age can help develop children’s rhythm, speech and literacy skills – not to mention being a great chance to have a rhythmical boogy and burn off some energy too!
Rhythm Time teaches you how to make music fun and unlock your child’s potential by singing and making music together. Each class is different, and activities are designed around enhancing your little one’s development. Local classes run on Mondays in Morley and Lofthouse, and Tuesdays in Glasshoughton and Tong.
Sounds Right Phonics Classes are educational, high energy classes which teach early phonics skills to children aged 2-4 years. Run by a qualified primary school teacher, they are a fun way to introduce early literacy through games, dance and music. Classes run in Morley and North Kirklees.
Team sports bring young children together to socialise and play alongside others, as well as being great exercise. Sports develop coordination, strength, balance and communication skills, as well as keeping kids fit and active.
Little Messys are fun-filled sessions designed to work on your child’s balance, coordination and communication using football as a tool. Classes for 3-6 year olds run on Fridays at 5pm at Fives (Previously Powerleague) in Seacroft.
The Hunslet Club delivers a range of activities to children and young people aged from 18 months to 25 years. Regular weekly classes include gymnastics, boxing, football, rugby, dance, hip hop, cheer dance, majorettes, drama, ballet and tap.
