Fairies Take Over the Museum

This summer holidays Abbey House Museum will welcome some of your favourite fairy tale characters and creatures as the Victorian Streets are taken over by them! Captain Hook has managed to stop the clocks ticking in the pub, a marvellous pumpkin patch has sprung up in the middle of the street and there are a mischief of magical mice helping Cinderella make a ball gown before the clock strikes twelve! Beware old ladies offering apples, we’d recommend sticking to ice cream from the café, just to be safe! You can pick up a bumper craft bag to take home filled with activities to keep the kids entertained. Don’t miss the Sounds of Our City temporary exhibition on the first floor which explores the history of music and sound in Leeds and looks at some of the most famous places and artists to come from the city.

Clip ‘n Climb Garforth is a healthy, action-packed climbing experience. We use state-of-the art automatic belaying technology so that climbers can simply clip into the safety system and climb the Challenge in front of them. We have over 25 different Challenges and our amazing Vertical Drop Slide, something for everyone, regardless of age or aptitude.

Leeds City Museum is travelling to a land of myths and legends for the summer holidays and we want you to join us!
Pick up or download a trail to explore marvellous magical myth stories from different cultures around the world at the Museum this summer.
We will be hosting different activities each week throughout summer on Tuesdays and Thursdays and free tickets will be available soon, where applicable.

Touch, smell, hear and feel a mysterious mythical story! Watch out this story is interactive and you might get splashed! Free, drop –in. Spaces limited. Duration: 30 min
Animal Handling with Lion Learners :19 Aug, time tbc – FREE booking essential, see website for booking info.
Touch or hold real animals, with safety measures in place. What does a corn-snake feel like? And then explore animals in mythology around the museum with our free family trail.

It’s time to come out of hiding this summer! The dinosaurs are back at Stockeld park for a Jurassic event like no other!
Reawaken your sense of adventure with our 5 adventure playgrounds, but oh wait, what’s that sound?
As you Swing and as you soar, be sure to listen out for those loud ROARS!
Take a walk on the wild side through the Enchanted Forest and become an explorer for the day.
How many dinosaurs can you find, be honest!
Can you escape the maze before it’s too late?
Make sure there’s no T-Rex’s lurking behind the gates!
And if you dare to get so close,
Take a picture with the Stockeld raptor,
it will make the perfect Instagram post!

Here at Swithens Farm, we have a huge range of animals for you to see and interact with. Your little ones, and probably you also, will be happy as the pigs in muck as you get involved with feeding and learning about the care and husbandry on a real working farm. We have a whole host of stars for you to meet including cows, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, donkeys, llamas, alpacas, emus, meerkats, turtles, rabbits and guinea pigs.
Don’t forget to keep an eye out for our cheeky long-time friend Bilbo. He is likely to race you up the paddocks! A truly up close and hands-on experience. A fun day for all.
Open Tuesday to Sunday in term time and Monday to Sunday in the school holidays and on bank holidays, 10 till 5.
Farm Admission Price £7 per person, 2 and under go free. You can even buy a tub of carrots for 50p and feed the animals as you go round. Tubs are recycled daily, helping the environment. You can buy your tickets online using the Tickets tab at the top of the page. Farm entry is strictly Pre-paid tickets only due to the current covid-19 situation.
We are adhering fully with the current covid-19 rules which includes social distancing, plenty of hand washing and hand gel stations. For the moment the café is take out only and we have an outside marquee for you to sit and enjoy your takeout.
Our playbarn is reopening on Tuesday 20th July. It is normally open 10 till 5 when the farm is open. Admission is £3 per child up to 10 years old. Adults are free.
Head to Temple Newsam for the summer school holidays and make a full day of it with a trip to the house and farm. Follow the Faith Hardwick trail through Temple Newsam House, finding objects along the way and unlocking the secrets of the historical mansion. Get up close to rare breed animals at Home Farm and explore the cobbled streets and outbuildings. There’s two large playgrounds and lots of outdoor space including stunning spots by the lakeside, perfect for family picnics.

Ever considered why we need billions of neurons, what causes a headache, or how many thoughts we have a day? This summer, we’re getting inside your head with our programme of events exploring the science behind thinking, feeling, seeing and doing.

Grass Hoppers is an outdoor adventure playground set in the grounds of Tong Garden Centre where children up to the age of 10 years old can enjoy proper outdoor fun. Including Jumping Pillow’s, Giant Sandpit, Race Track, Zip Wire, Adventure Play Area and Under 4’s Play Area.

Northwood Trail is nestled in a 100 acre wood at Buttercrambe close to York and this delightful woodland fairy sanctuary is the first of its kind in the world.

The caves and shop are open daily from 9am-6pm and The Time Cafe serves delicious hot and cold food and drink from 10am – 5.30pm.
Stump Cross Caverns is an ancient natural cave formation deep underneath the Yorkshire Dales. As well as the caves, they’ve also got a cinema (available to rent at £6 per person), cafe, time out private dining pod, shop and visitor centre on site. There is a brilliant fairy trail to keep little ones entertained whilst down the caves – as well as a huge outdoor sandpit to search for old dinosaur bones! Stumpy Van also serves delicious ice creams – weather dependent!

Make sure to join in and complete the Big Butterfly Count whilst visiting. Pick up your spotter sheet, complete your count and upload the results online. Every sighting helps build up a better picture of the butterfly populations health and numbers.
