With over a thousand tonnes of extra black and green bin waste expected to be produced and over a million bins to be emptied, Leeds City Council’s refuse service will be working through the Christmas period to ensure bin collections continue to run smoothly. |

The service is only closing on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and News Year Eve, with crews operating throughout the rest of the festive period including Sundays.
So no-one misses out on a collection, collection days will change from Christmas Eve (Sunday 24 December), with those scheduled for Christmas Day being made a day early. Collections will then take place a day later than usual from Tuesday 26 December until Sunday 7 January, returning to normal from Monday 8 January.
Leeds’ eight household waste and recycling centres will only be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day and will otherwise be open and operating as normal, including Sundays. A leaflet setting out bin collection dates for Christmas and New Year will be dropping through letterboxes (or chimneys) from the start of next week. The leaflet also includes a handy guide showing the many household items that can go into your green bin for recycling – including the extra cardboard packaging, metal drink cans and chocolate boxes that this time of the year brings. People can check their Christmas bin collection dates at www.leeds.gov.uk/mybinday or get bin reminders straight to their phone by downloading the Leeds Bins app. |
