Do you use the A6120 Outer Ring Road (ORR) between Horsforth and Pudsey? Between 2014 to 2018 there were ten serious and 70 small collisions reported in the area, including two recent fatalities, showing a need to improve safety on the route. Leeds City Council has plans to improve safety measures on the ring road and provide residents with better, safer ways to walk and cycle between the local areas.
The proposed changes would include:
· a new walking, wheeling* and cycling bridge across the outer ring road connecting the communities of Calverley and Farsley.
· the creation of a mixed-use path linking Rodley roundabout to Dawsons Corner.
· traffic light improvements to Rodley roundabout, aiming to ease congestion.
· safety measures banning right turns out of Calverley Bridge and Calverley Lane North junctions.
· an accessible ramp that links the A6120 outer ring road to the Leeds-Liverpool canal towpath.
· planting and landscaping improvements along the whole route.
· a reduction in speed to 50mph starting from A6120 Horsforth roundabout and finishing at A647 Bramley Town End, which could be enforced by either fixed or average speed cameras.
These proposals follow on from a phase one consultation that suggested improvements to the Fink Hill junction, Horsforth roundabout and the creation of a cycle route from Horsforth roundabout to Rodley roundabout. Phase one works will start on site in Summer and Autumn 2022.
