Thought about using reusable nappies but not sure where to start? Or maybe you hadn’t thought about it at all until you saw this blog and you’re just a tiny bit curious now! This week (19 – 25 April 2021) is Reusable Nappy Week so it’s the perfect chance to find out more. It’s a time for retailers, brands, nappy libraries, councils, cloth parents and other organisations to generally raise awareness, share information, and celebrate the benefits of cloth nappies. You’ll also find retailers having various sales and giveaways.

What are reusable nappies? Reusable nappies, or cloth nappies, are used in place of disposable nappies. You might be imagining old fashioned terry towel nappies and safety pins from olden days but that’s not quite the case! There are different styles but the principle is the same – you use them, wash them, and use them again!

• Leeds City Council offer a voucher scheme where you can get £30 off if you spend £50, but you need to apply for this before baby is 12 months old.
• Bear in mind that there is no “right way” to use cloth nappies. You can build up gradually or start fully in one go. You can start at day one or months later. Only use cloth nappies or use a mix of cloth nappies and disposables. The decision is yours.
• Ask for help & advice if you need it!
• GO FOR IT! The best tip is to just go for it. You’ll soon find out what works for you and, if you encounter any issues then there will be someone who can help you with it.
