An impressive 25,000 trees are grown at the Methley Estate, so on arrival we headed straight up to the top carpark where you can find the entrance to the Cut Your Own.
My husband grabbed a saw (cleaned of course) and off we went to find our perfect tree! It’s hard not to get carried away choosing the right one, but after numerous tree disasters from previous years we had a strict rule that the tree had to be shorter than the hubby so that narrowed down our choices (a bit anyway).
The children LOVED running around in the trees- we had to keep reminding them what we were there for, and we had a job to do as well as a a huge game of hide and seek!! Obviously it is muddy, so wear your wellies!
Once we had chosen the perfect tree – one that we had all decided that was the perfect size and shape- hubby got to work with the saw, with Jess helping too. They were massively proud of themselves!
At the entrance to the Pick Your Own Fields the absolutely fantastic staff were there to help net up the tree to make the journey home that little bit easier! Jess was even able to get involved here, she was in charge of pulling the tree through the net.
Tree safely in the car, we went to look at the shop and cafe area. If you prefer a non-drop tree, this is where you can head, with a huge selection to choose from and a really easy display system without nets (Nordmann Firs priced between £35 and 70). Quite a few people were choosing their tree from this area and then just heading up to the pick your own for a walkabout, which they were perfectly happy for them to do too.
There was a cafe set up in this area, so you could even come here first to grab a hot chocolate to walk around as you choose your tree.
There is also a Christmas shop alongside the Christmas Trees, perfect for you to choose a stand to fit your tree and some picture perfect baubles!
What a fantastic family afternoon. At the moment there’s so much restriction on what we’re able to do, so this was even more of a welcome activity. Here’s some advice on how to keep your tree fresh through the Christmas period;
The Methley Estate is open daily until 20th December 2020 9am and 5pm. On Thursday 3rd December they are open until 8pm. Pre-booking is not required, but you may need to wait during busy periods. Cash and card payments accepted.

We were kindly gifted a Christmas Tree this year (thank you Methley!) but were thoroughly impressed by the whole experience (which is just as well because I’m always honest- so that might have been a bit awkward!)
